Slowdive, Ride, Hot Chip y Xiu Xiu recuerdan a Mark Hollis de Talk Talk

Inicialmente comenzó siendo un rumor, pero al final el publicista de Mark Hollis confirmó que los primeros detalles de su deceso eran una terrible realidad a causa de una enfermedad que nunca desapareció de su cuerpo.

Si bien no quiso entrar en muchos detalles, el fallecimiento de Hollis ha desatado una notable cantidad de tributos y memoriales que hacen énfasis en la relevancia que tiene y seguirá teniendo su trabajo tanto en Talk Talk, como en lo que estuvo haciendo poco antes de anunciar su retiro de la industria.

Slowdive, Ride, Savages, Fleet Foxes, Hot Chip, Xiu Xiu, White Lies, Lol Tolhurst, Broken Social Scene y Tim Pope, son tan solo algunos de los artistas que han tomado parte de su tiempo para compartir unas palabras en su honor.

Rest in peace Mark Hollis. Spirit of Eden changed my life and how I think about music. I hope people can hear it in the songs I write sometimes. Thank you to the thoughtful music friend who originally gave me the LP straight from his collection, confident nothing would be the same again. I seem to remember him saying he could buy another copy, but that nothing would compare to the joy of introducing someone to that record for the first time. If you’ve never listened, try listening to The Rainbow today, on headphones Mark Hollis: “Before you learn to play two notes, learn how to play one note, y’know. And don’t play one note unless you’ve got a reason to play it”

Mark Hollis captured so many of us with his haunting approach to song and the compelling ways he presented simplistic mountains of sound. He was an educator of emotion and a voice for the blood throat shadows of tomorrow. This is a loss amongst many.

Very sad to hear about the disappearance of the great Talk Talk singer Mark Hollis. His solo record (artwork above) means so much to me, I recommend it to you if you don’t know it already. I played it on my radio show many times. I always hoped he would somehow reappear and bless us with his voice and music again, but he never did, and I also admire him for that. Everything he did was pure. We are so lucky to have his music in this world. I will spend the night listening. RIP. #talktalk #markhollis
